Default Ruby-crowned Kinglet juvi, considering lunch

Taken in a local woods several days ago. One of the tiniest of our songbirds, this little kinglet was actively flitting from flower to flower in the sun-dappled woods. The daddy-long-legs was a pleasant surprise when I looked on the computer.

Hi Bill, you shouldn't have mentioned that you didn't see the daddy long legs until viewing on the computer, I was going to say wonderfully seen and captured. I like the image, it tells a story. I guess I want to know if the bird ate the spider. Nice colors, good wing position on the bird, detail looks good. Thank you for sharing.

    Nice shot Jo, good composition.
I think the daddy long legs is a Harvestman spider,

Hi Bill, what an interesting frame.

No patient man ever tried to get a Kinglet in focus in flight. Must say, it's not quite tack sharp from here but you might be able to eek a bit more out.

All that said, the uniqueness is sure evident and I applaud the overall effort here.

These birds are a nightmare to capture sitting still, so this is a remarkable result. The pose, lighting, and composition are outstanding.

That said, the IQ is suffering. The bird isn't sharp, there's strong posterization in the background, and the flower and attending spider are smeared, presumably from processing.

This is not up to your usual technical standards, but I imagine you kept it because it's an amazing result against those considerations.

Thank you all. You are right that the IQ suffers from the reasons noted by Dorian. One of those "if only" shots.

Oh, and btw, Joe, he did not eat the spider.

Here's an attempt to address the several IQ shortcomings: sharpening of flower and bird, and minor improvement to the posterization that had resulted from my attempt to tone down the BG highlights. Bird and flower still appear somewhat coarse, probably from motion blur (and over-processing?). I suppose that when vainly attempting to catch tiny flitty birds in flight, at least 1/3200s would help, but of course I was fighting the light.
