    Default Red Squirrel

Hi folks .... took the new toy to the Squirrel playground .
As it is in a kind of forest , conditions are difficult to shoot there in summer / autumn as leafs are still on the trees and it is quite dark or it is too contrasty . Not the ideal place for that lens .... with F 7,1 at 500 mm .
But I managed to get some frames .

    Canon EOS R3
    RF 100 - 500 IS L at 500 mm
    HH

    F 7,1 ; Iso 16000 ; 1/640 sec

Think the IQ is cool , Jon might not like the GREENS , I do love the deep colorful greens .

Processed with Capture One and PSCC 2022 ; cropped for comp to 80% of FF ; shot in vertical

Thanks for watching and commenting to my last posting

    Cheers Andreas

Andreas, sweet frame man. You don't have to pitch me on the greens, love em!

Super cute pose, and I like the bkg personally. What are the spots on the head?

I know it may be sacrilege here, but the turquoise [leaf] in the FG distracts a good bit. Overall, a joy to view as are your other recent ones posted here!

PS - why the switch to Cap One?

Thanks Brian for your comment , much appreciated .

Spots on the head are ticks .
I was 50/50 on the leaf ... left it in , but could be removed .

Not switching in general to C1 , I just do it on high iso images in general as I have changed my workflow for high iso images .
And DPP is a pain in the **** .... when it comes to speed !!!! Having the latest and very fast Mac Studio ..... it just sucks !!! The CR3 files taking ages to render and making changes is very slow .
And C1 is lightning fast on all counts .... colors coming close to DPP , so it is a good compromise .

    Cheers Andreas

I agree that the rich greens are lovely. As usual the IQ is WOW especially at ISO 16000. I would remove the leaf. The lens seems really great? Lovely image imho

    Absolutely makes sense.

I will say your high ISO processing is impeccable and quite impressive. If you don't mind, why not use LR - it is fast and has a good bit of adj capability. Also, still using Topaz for those images?

Brian the answer is simple .... Capture One offers more options for working with layers and localized edits at raw stage . Adobe colors .... not in my favor , as Capture One is closer to DPP colors . I use ACR as filter from time to time .

Topaz plugins are a big NO NO for me .... tried again and again with various new versions , never satisfied me . Always used the trials .... Even worse the latest crap from Topaz .... what I have seen .

Even you will not get me to work with LR

    Cheers Andreas

Hi Andreas, subject looks great, even better seeing the ISO is 16,000. I do think you could tone down the greens a tad. Neat image, thank you for sharing.

Which greens are you talking about ? The moss in the FG or the OOF lawn in the BG ?

    Hello Andreas,

Love this frame for its colours and vibrance, it is also well composed and pose is great. Great sharpness and detail.

FG a bit messy but nothing you could do about it...or maybe you can clean it up a bit...if you want to

Love the squirrel and its whiskers and ticks and everything, DoF is spot on and BG is lovely, nice work Boetie

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Great detail. I prefer the second image with the cleaner foreground. What shooting mode did you use? Fv, P Tv?

Interesting my friend, I SWORE I would never use C1 again because everything came out with this dull, green tint over it.

Anyhow, you are showing C1 who is boss, so kudos to you!

Good morning Brian ... never had any color issues with C1 , and if so it is operator error

    Thanks Jon

To my eyes the colors are not EXTRA vivid , just as I recall them in my brain . They do have the same green intensity like in a rainforest under the lighting conditions I took this shot . FG is in shadow and is wet from the rain the night before , whereas the BG is illuminated by the sun . You can see it differently ....

The POV works and the slight arc of the green FG cradles the subject nicely, light bokeh backdrop and super sharpness at ISO16k, doesn't surprise me with the R3, can't see any postings from Sony and Nikon to knock the IQ.

Greens personal choice, but pushing it has affected the overall colour balance and I don't like the overall yellow look, which has also bled into the whites. It could easily go a stop up without any detrimental loss to both look and IQ. Personally loosing the Cyan/Blue in the eye offers a clearer rendition. The bright FG leaf needed to go in the OP and the RP clarifies why. Not sure what the lighter patches just above the elbow and back are, and I might have removed the mites.

Thanks for your comment , Steve .
Tastes of color may differ I like it as posted . Do not see a benefit of raising the exp .
All of the Squirrels at that locations where looking quite scruffy in the fur .... resulting in not nice looking fur structure . But I am not a coiffeur by nature ... so will leave them untouched in the hairdo .
The mites are part of their lives ....

    Cheers Andreas
