Cormorants were plentiful at a local jetty today. This was taken just before sunset. Basic adjustments in camera raw and PS. Cheers.

Hi Paul, similar but different than the Cormorants here. Sharp, nice wing position, the darks/blacks look a little heavy but that could be the differences in our screens. I like the hint of clouds in the background. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Paul nice cormorant in flight ... I do like the sky and the flight pose .
Colors look good as does the sharpness .
Blacks are clipped and too heavy for me .... regardless of the screen , check the histogram .

A faint dark halo ( very wide ) is present around the bird , wonder what caused the halo . You will know

    Still a nice shot

    Thanks Joseph and Andreas.
Andreas: I did see the halo on the full size image and removed as much as I could before resizing for this forum. I don't see it on the full size image on my monitor, but I do see it here. (and yes, I do know what caused it) I do like the blacks on the wing but do see the clipped section below the neck on the right...will take another look and re process. Cheers.

I re-processed the image by fixing the clipped blacks and only applied selective n/r and sharpening to the bird but not near the edges. There is no halo at all on the full size image, but interestingly I do see some faint halos at different places here...not sure why. Resizing for the forum involves the following in Photoshop: mode change from 16 bit to 8 bit, image size to 1900px wide, rgb to srgb and exporting to jpg using "preserve details 2.0". Thoughts?

Yes, pulling up those blacks was an important tweak here! That one white "fluffy" feather on the far wing does pull my eye there, and removing it would be a good option IMO. I love the faint clouds in the BG. I've never used that resizing method so I cannot comment on that...
