    Default Ruby-throated Hummingbird Balancing Act.

This female Ruby-throated Hummingbird was such a fun subject last month. She had the habit of sitting on leaves as she sipped on nectar, but on this occasion, just before settling on the leaf, she grabbed it at the very tip for a unique pose.

Canon R6 + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC III, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/1250s., f5.6, ISO 3200, natural ight, handheld, small crop (about 80% FF), the flower (a turtlehead) was a bit past prime therefore a few brown spots were spot-removed from the petals.

Daniel, the pose and the tilted position on the subject make this one interesting. Additionally, the perspective next to the beautiful, large blooms is sweet as is that toe grab!

The composition works for me. One thing that stood out is how muted the whites are on the subject compared to the flowers. I feel like maybe they got muted just a bit much (i.e. perhaps you could open up the tones on the subject a bit more in the mid-upper range on her).

Anyhow, always a joy viewing your images.

Hi Dan, love the pose. Your usual techs look good. I think the whites on the bird are muted because they are not as pure white as the flowers. I wondered why such a slow shutter speed but then I don't know what light you were working with. Thank you for sharing.

Very nice indeed Dan, I like the pose composition and the processing.

Cool shot Dan ... a cleaner left side would be nicer , but we cannot have all at the same time .

Love it. A boxy crop might work well here.

The shooting angle on the flower isn't ideal, especially with the closer/OOF stuff at far left, but the subject generally pulls our view towards the center. It's really fun to see both tiny feet. Techs look perfect. Brave man shooting hummers at 1/1250, but you ended up with something decent.
