I shot this at Pinecrest Gardens with my Canon 40D on tripod, ISO 200 F/11.0, 1/3 sec, EF 70-200mm F/2.8 lens, 200mm, Pattern metering, Auto WB, Auto Exposure
I like your thinking here a lot Would need less elements to really make it work Maybe more spacing and less stalks? ....but do like the basic idea to sandwich the flower !!!!
Nice composition Richard,
On the repost, I would tone down the reds just a tad...I like the composition...On your next one, try to capture the edges of the red leaves at a 25 - 30 degree angle; up close and in your face type of thing and see what comes out. I think you might like it...:)
I like the framing and the peeking. What bugs me are the three bright highlights...Two on the left-most branch and the one on the right frame edge. All would be easy to remove, most easily with a QM.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Being about 25 feet off the path with no access didn't allow the shot i would have liked. Gus, when you say 25 to 30 degrees do you mean at an angle to the leaf itself?
i know exactly where you were standing!! saw the same one last week. i tried and was unsuccesful. you did well with what you had. i just wish that middle stalk was not there. maybe next time we can take some pruners:D:D
