Nice image Jonathan, I've never seen one before.
Tack sharp, glad you capture the calling motion.
The BG is a tad busy for me.

    Jon:

Nice calling pose, the shape and scale of the perch works well with the birds shape, nice display of foot.
As Ramon mentioned the background is a bit busy, but I am not bothered much by it.I might soften the light streak intersecting the right side of the perch and lighten the shadow near the perch , but the bird is dominant enough to carry the day for me.

Hi Jon. nice look at this bird. Feather detail is really nice, I am not familiar with this bird, that said the colors look natural. I see what others are commenting on in the background but I also know your thoughts that some backgrounds that are too smooth do not look natural. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Jon ... nice shot all around , the calling pose is nice .
    overall processing looks good .
not too fuzzed about the comp , as I think too much dead space on top .
the bg is fully ok for me , I feel it is already softened by i.e. negative clarity ..... hope I am not wrong
the perch should go darker and the subject brighter , just my take .

Your photo is beautiful and clear. But do you know what kind of bird this is? It looks like it's hungry and what's their favorite food?

10/10 for observation Andreas!. I agree regarding the stump for some reason I was making it hard work, I have since reprocessed and masked and modified masks in ACR and it looks a lot better. The image is a sizeable crop , the stump was a real pig's ear so I eliminated most of it. I tried making the bird a little brighter, I see what you mean....but it didn't look much better to me.... but maybe a bit
