$4000 each - that’s how much Delta paid Sonia and me (and 18 others) to deplane after a two-hour, at-gate delay last night. Somehow they miscalculated the weight-to-fuel ratio for our flight from Atlanta to Johannesburg — presumably by taking on too much cargo — and there isn’t any leeway on the 16-hour, trans-oceanic route. So, we sacrificed one day of forty in return for $8000 in cash cards and a free night in a fancy hotel. We have guaranteed seats and boarding passes for tonight’s flight. Not the start we envisioned, but we’ll take it!
Anyway, he's my favorite shot from my recent Newfoundland trip. I'm usually on top of my subjects, so it was really nice to back off in this instance!
