I captured this image at a rookery in north Tampa. I have posted a similar image previously with a different background but almost the same pose of the bird. This image I found waiting to be processed today and worked it up this morning. Comments and critique welcomed and appreciated. Thank you for viewing.

Hi Andreas, here is a post of the image without anything done to the background. Using the new masking tools in Lightroom/ACR I have been trying to get more separation of the subject from the background, always a problem in a two dimensional image. What I have been doing/experimenting with is masking the subject then inverting the mask so the background is masked, then lowering the exposure by a small amount (0.30) so the background is slightly darker than the subject. On the original posted image I also reduced the clarity of the background by -25 to smooth out some of the tones. Double processing the image once for the subject and once for the background. Here is the repost without any work done to the background.

Thanks everyone for viewing and commenting. Your advise and suggestions are well taken, that being said I get bored doing the same thing over and over so always trying something new. Some times it works other times not so. Thanks again everyone for your opinions and suggestions...

Very appealing image here, with a perfect downstroke wing position. A slight advantage to the repost as I agree the BG was fine to begin with. I do wish the heron was a wee bit smaller in the frame, with more room all around and especially more to our left...but still a great view of this beautiful subject.
