    Default Loon Family

The loon season has started for me in Northern Michigan. Fewer chicks than usual this year. Probably climate related unfortunately .
Still fun to float around with them. This male adult was trying to look tough while escorting the chicks about. This lake was troubled by frequent intruding loons, which try to take over the resident loons territory. They will fight to the death at times, and the intruders will kill the chicks of the resident pair as well. So, high drama.

A super shot Randy, I really like the composition, I am however troubled somewhat by the colours, there is a strong cast in the dark plumage and there is a band of blue in the green water at the bottom edge of the chicks.

    Thanks Jon:

The blue line beneath the chick is just a reflection of the sky off a ripple. I do appreciate the blue cast on the adult, and will clean that up.

Hi Randy, a lovely family scene, there is such caring and tenderness in nature. Good timing capturing all heads turned the right way. Post processing spot on as always. Thank you for sharing.

Randy, it's been a while. I was just telling someone recently about you having a Loon boat. What a blessing.

This is a rock solid frame. I did pretty quickly notice the blues but sounds like you'll address that. Chicks are really cute, all in plane and the faint colored striations at the top really add.

    Great choice of pano.

    Hope for more...

Hi Randy ... apart from the electric blues , a real killer of a Loon image !!!
    Super cute kids .
Would reduce the sharpness on the chicks ... to me they look kinda coarse in the very fine structure of the normally fine feathers .
