Since having left the female to raise the brood, I've not had a chance to get back, due to a raft of commitments, but understand all have fledged and she is now on her second brood.
The tip of the perch is ugly, but the female had a choice of three, but kept coming back to this one, sadly having changed it later she did not come back.

Pretty much perfect. You might wish to lighten the eye and the area around it. Love the BKGR, and the perch (except at noted by you).

My two cents. Fixed three scars on the perch and lightened the face a tad. Work done with the Patch Tool, Content-aware Fill, and the Clone Stamp Tool, all as detailed in Digital Basics II.

Looking good Steve....The perch is perfect...Focus is spot on....Colours on the bird also nice and a great looking pose....It sure 'blooms' against that BG.
Lovely shot Steve, I like the colours and the processing, in fact to my eye absolutely spot on (just recalibrated my monitor too!).
I am sure you agree the tip of the stick is an easy fix, as Artie did or maybe put a little moss there. Having said that leaving as is adds credibility, from my point of view it makes me think that the image has not been manipulated too much in terms of compositional elements.

Jon, for me there is Merit in both, you could have Artie's version for 'social media', the second, untouched, for any local comps, but at the end of the day, the only comps that count are the big ones - and they require validation via the raw.

Yeah, this is really sweet as all others have said. I find the bird a bit too far right, so you could **** the frame left a bit since you have ample space left of the perch tip (clone or not!). Otherwise awesome.
Indeed Dorian, given the subject had the choice of three perches, it picks not only the ugly one, but the one that needed a support too... and so where does it land, with inches of that support, hence the tight crop right.
Never work with young children, or kingfishers!!!!

There must have been a reason .... still think one can crop it differently , and I would prefer a rather classical crop .
As presented , it could as a double page ... not so much as "normal " image , just my take .
But we all see things differently .
