    Dear Friends,

There is so much going on in a little baboon's life! It seems every member of the family wants to pick him up and carry him around and even take him away from his mother. But mothers are very powerful and respected, they make up the stable core of the group and a very strict hierarchy exists between the adults ones and the young. They have the power to discipline everyone.

The young usually inherit the rank of the mother and therefore even adult females of lower rank are subordinate to the offspring of the dominant kinship matriarch. Young males stick around until they are about four years of age...at this time they become dominant over all females, and even the males of lower ranking females.

    So it's all rather complicated...

Here is an image of a youngster, it was taken in the Kruger Park last month. He is seeking protection from a few mothers after being chased around by a couple of young males. His screams got my attention but by the time I focused on him he was safely nested among the females and holding tight on one of his cousins' leg. Loved the 'catch me if you can' pose, hope you like it too:)

    Techs as follows:

    Nikon D5
    Nikon 500 mm F4
    ISO 1600
    F7.1
    +1/3 EV
    1/2500s

Thank you so much for your time to view and I appreciate any comments or critique from you, be it of a technical nature or otherwise.

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

I don't know if this is a crop but it looks pretty much ideal to me, I just can't get over the details in this image they are super..... as they are indeed from other people. The results here always give me something to aim for. Great shot Gabriela love it - keep 'em coming - when you can and hey I want to see that lion you previously referred to!!

I agree the detail is top notch. The eye contact is great and all the sharp hands/feet and fingernails really add to the image. These guys are a delight to photograph

Hi Gabriela .... well timed emotional image , cool capture !!
Processing looks good with really nice fine details rendered , bravo little sister !!!
Personally I am not too fuzzed about the tar ... but when things happening there , one must shot .
Crop works well , not sure about the darkening in the upper part of the image ???!!! Might reduce the effect by x% .

    Nicely done and TFS Andreas

Thank you so much everyone, I so appreciate your comments and critique.

Jon, your lion is coming, busy working on it

Basil, yes I love them too, so much going on when when those chaps are around, I could spend hours with them.

Andreas - I did darken the top a tad and maybe I went a little too far, just felt that the mom's 'breasts' were a little distracting so I tried to conceal them. Will see if it still works if I reduce the effect, thank you.

PS. It feels really good to be back, been missing the interaction and you all... my family

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Great to see something different Gabriela, nicely done, well scene and executed. Crop works and I like the gaze direct to the viewer. The tight grip on Mum is priceless and conveys so much. I might address the HL on the leg to the right.
