I was just moving out of the rain shower which was coming and must have caused the lorikeet to fly out of her heavily disguised Eucalyptus sheltering in our local park. The A1 was up to it and I had not changed any settings as had I increased the magnification the rainbow would not be in the frame.Luck!
    Hope you enjoy it

    Ian:

One of those once in a lifetime chances, if you are lucky!

Great pose, well exposed, a very evocative image.

Looks like a bit of color noise on my screen, esp in the blues and purples of the sky. Just a bit blotchy.

    But, a really fun one!!

    Congrats

    Just thinking out loud here…
With this unique bird and situation I’d be inclined to move the bird to where his head is just entering the rainbow and then do a vertical crop. I understand if you’re opposed to such measures, but I think it would look great.

Color on the bird is great, but I think the subject is too small in the frame, even with the rainbow. You really needed the bird to be closer the rainbow for this to land perfectly. I would not electronically move the bird closer as I think would be disingenuous. I would tighten the crop to lose the foliage at bottom right. It doesn't add anything as is.

Thanks for the suggestions . Will try to take them into the next post, a frame or two later than this . Interesting point you made David. I have never posted one` but been tempted with young peregrines playing around in the sky but never quite close enough each other to be perfect.Interesting to see how whether people agree with Dorian.

I don't mind it as posted for positioning, but can understand the tighter crop suggestion. Definitely get rid of the blotchy BG. A striking shot of the bird.

Hooray for you Andreas. I move the subjects around in the frame all the time. Why? Because it is my photo and I am the artist. And most importantly, I always let folks know what I do.

Ian, frankly I quite like this frame. Light angle and wing position rock!

I think the distance from the subject (i.e. smaller in frame) with reference of the perch and entering the rainbow make for a pleasing composition.

There appears to be a strong yellow cast on this one. Try to pull some back (i.e. -12 warmth in LR) and see if you agree that it really makes the blue sky a little richer and makes the colors on the bird pop!

    Well done from here Ian.

I love it - but then I really like well done small in frame shots. Well seen with the rainbow and the wing position is spot on

Wow, two rainbows in one frame! I like it as is, though it would be really fun to experiment moving the subject as suggested. I'd be pleased with this opportunity and frame!
