With Jon's postings I thought I too might have a look at what lies within the vaults, prior to popping over to Bempton in the coming weeks.

Sadly the subject has passed me by and is ahead, but I just love the way the updraft curls the plumaged and the light, lights up the delicate plumage colouration.

Thanks to those who commented or viewed the last posting.

Hi Steve what a difference in terms of clarity , colors and sharpness compared to Jon's and Will`s flat overcast conditions .
    Looks like from Helgoland ...
Agree with your self critique ...... and would add that the angle of light isn't great either , well I can live it does not bother me . Colors are looking so natural ... well done .

It is what it is, but just thought its worth a punt.

Thanks Andreas, occasionally you have to be a bit more adventurous in rendering.

Looking good Steve....Colours on the bird look spot on....Although flying away, the head turn does help....The colour of the sea is very nice and shows the bird well...It's good when you get that close....

Exposure and processing are outstanding, so kudos on that. Dangling foot is fun, but I'm missing the eye contact since the bird is passed you.

Yes, it was the wind's fault. But why photograph a bird that is angling away from you with flat wings? The exposure is good and the tail and feet are nice but this one does nothing for me. We cannot even see the pupil.

We all see things differently, I see a beautifully exposed and well defined image of a Gannet, I can see a head wings and an eye, I don't need much more than that!

I would echo your thoughts , albeit the angle might be not ideal .... but the subject is just wonderfully presented in terms of color , tone and sharpness
