    Default Tawny owl and owlet

One from the archives, a very unexpected encounter, but four long days, (around 12 hrs a day) put in, waiting for the Tawny to show. Shot from behind a Hawthorn hedge with the hide pressed right up against the hedge and a small hole cut through the hedge. You never knew when the Adult would appear so, in... early into the hide and that was it because I just did not want to spoke it, plus I did not want to be on the receiving end of the owl, unlike those who have heard of Eric Hoskins. This was on the last day, right at the end, the adult flew in and then shortly after the owlet showed, after this neither were seen again.

Just to add context to the location... you can see the hole where the two Owls were sitting.

    Dear Steve,

Wonderful capture of mommy owl with her owlet, your patience truly paid off!

Well exposed, lovely colours and textures, POV is great. Nice pose from both and super composition, I like the way the nest fills the frame. And that tiny patch of sky in the ULC adds context.
Enjoyed viewing, very much, those two are so cute. And thank you for showing us the location, truly a special sighting

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Hi Steve, your image made me smile, wonderful to see the owlets. Wonderful image, nice work. I also like seeing the full tree and where the nest cavity was. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Steve, great shot of the owl family! And a great effort too! While the filtered light is less than ideal, it is still great to see the owls in daylight. Also, looked up Eric Hoskins. Didn't know these owls were so protective!

Wow to commitment! But you got a marvelous result. Very convenient for that hedge to be available.

A fine shot Steve, well detailed as usual, showing the tree in its entirety was a good idea.

Serious dedication! And well worth the effort. Peeking talons are great, and I like the tight crop to maximize the tree and minimize the sky. Pretty much perfect timing on your part.
