The Sparrow hawk is becoming less frequent to the site, which we think may mean she might perhaps have young, but still enjoying feeding on the abundance of Wood pigeon.

Thanks to those who commented or viewed the last posting.

First class, the colours are just about perfect. Sharp where it needs to be, the tail is not sharp, I don't see a problem with that, not one bit.
My only reservation is the pigeon's head is missing.

Some images do, some don't like here Jon, personally I'm 50/50, as I don't think it adds anything, however...

Hi Steve ... stunning capture you balanced out the strong side light nicely .
    Superbly processed .

But I am with Jon about the chopped head .... it feels like something is missing , IMHO .

How can it be , with the used combo and the shooting location ??? No camera setting would have given the DOF ....
I am just surprised that you raised that theme ....

Nice one Steve......Really like the majestic pose.....Getting all in focus looks real good......The 'cut off head' is a good touch.......There is plenty of drama without that.....IQ looks nice....and I like the crop....

Hi Steve. Really nice frame. I'm in the head cut off feels like it is missing something camp. But still a very nice image all around.

I commented only because it is often mentioned and I agree it is just not necessary.

Once again thanks for commenting folks.

Regarding the head of the WP, I have in the past posted with or without and as I have mentioned, I'm 50/50, but can see both sides. Personally for me its all about the SH, and to reduce the 'gore' factor I have posted mainly with the plumage 'in tact' as the WP would last 2-3 days and just having guts, skeleton & bone perhaps is too much for some and certainly less attractive? Some may also feel without the head its more respectful so to speak and gives anonymity to the prey, either way I will probably still shoot with and without just for variety unless it absolutely key to retain the whole of the body.

Looks great. The light gives some nice depth here. Nice to see the prey. Also like that mottled background.

A very good evening to you Steve,

I personally feel that including the pigeon's face would not add so much to the frame. Really like the focus and attention on the sparrow hawk...

Great expression, well framed, well exposed and colours are superb. Killer background too. Awesome details.
A well taken, well processed and presented frame.Truly enjoyed viewing this image

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Yes Andreas, I do of course realise this fact, at that magnification such DOF is impractical....... unless by some miraculous feat a stacked image was possible.
