The common loons are moving through lower Michigan on their way north. Most of the inland lakes in the north are still frozen. I am getting excited about my annual event, LOONAPALOOSA, the first two weeks of June when I stay up north to hopefully see the hatching of this years chicks and the great parenting that the adults provide.

This image was taken several years ago, never processed. Taken in early June.

Nikon D4, 600 VR, f/5.6, 1/4000s, ISO 2000. Pedestal mounted in the bottom of my little loon boat.

Post: LRCC, PS 2022. Small crop for comp. I lightened the shadows on the birds right eye.

    Advice and comments always appreciated.

An impactful image, colours look really good and the eyes are good and sharp. It is an unusual portrayal, perhaps not really emphasising the true beauty of the subject, I think it is the temporary pose making the neck appear squat and the head "too big". Well caught and processed but I think you have shown more pleasing images in terms of beauty and poise.

Thanks gentlemen, for your thoughtful comments. Yes Jon, this is a bit of a block headed pose for this loon. It seems like the best drop displays are when they are in a pose like this. Perhaps it effects how the feathers capture the water drops. I guess I will have to take more loon pictures this year and try and get the drops on a more elegant pose.

    Cheers

Sweet shot to have tucked away for so long. Love the water and the very direct pose.

You must be licking your chops at the upcoming loon season!! This one whets the appetite until then. I love al the water beads on the face, and the falling drops too.
