Lovely tight (maybe too tight?) shot here David. Excellent feather detail in the plumage and head. You had lovely light here. Cheers.

nice pose and detail you managed David. Overall the image does feel a tad bit under-exposed to me though. Just a third of a stop or so.

Hi David, I quiet like the pose being slightly side on, but agree that overall the image is dark, especially in the more shadow areas of the face, (hiding detail) and the plumage has greater detail within it. Not so keen on the bill being OOF (soft appearance) perhaps stepping back and cropping may have resulted in more DoF as a portrait such as this I would like to see everything sharp, just my take. Again I am assuming about backing off, but at f/10... Loosing the blue and trying to achieve a better mid grey balance does also help, but appreciate you limitations in that area. The backdrop them comes richer, 'alive' with less muted, dark colours and lifts the whole portrait.

Hi David, one of my favorited birds. Good detail in the feathers but overall I think the image is too heavy with black. I would back off the black, lighten the image. A bird that has a lot of dark/black colors on the head, as the Wood Stork does, works better on a lighter background otherwise some of the detail in the darks gets lost. Beautiful bird, nice pose, thank you for sharing.

Hi David ... a real character this guy .
Nice and tight with a super clean BG . Needs more light in the shadow areas .... to bring out the character a bit more .
I See where Steve is coming from with his thoughts .... but I would go just and open up the darker face . Just my thoughts

I would be inclined to brighten the head, the darks are rather dense and they appear to have a high blue content.
