I managed to get relatively close to this stag. The stags up here in Scotland are in general smaller than the those in England. I appreciate the line of water but there was no way I could get a shot with it above the antlers or below the chest.

Hi Jon ... a nice close up / head shot of this rack ,
Looks good on all counts , nice details and the BG is pleasingly blurred .
Personally i might try to burn the really light tones in the face ... and check the RGB values in the nose .

Nice one , like it a lot .

Thanks Andreas, I did check RGB on the nose, that is usually the first place I go but when I get a balance I often find the image is not balanced so I end up looking as shot, then auto and seeing what a compromise may look like.

Well Jon .. to me it does sound like you let the software to dictate the WB ???
And why making compromise in these terms ??

The blue nose is an easy fix .... during the fine tuning in PS .

Nice stare here Jon, a bit of a shame about the water, but thats what you get in the field as opposed to park deer. Details look excellent, thats impressed me for ISO 4000 on a 4/3 sensor, I agree that the WB is a little off

A very good evening to you dear Jon,

Nice pose from this deer and good proportion in terms of framing. That bit of blue cast easy fix for you but I too find the water in the BG quite distracting, sorry my friend - I do understand there was nothing you could do

Otherwise BG looks good and subject pops nicely against it, rack is quite impressive. Colour wise I am not sure, maybe the deer could do with a little 'boost' ? I was under the impression that its coat should be reddish brown... maybe colour varies depending on season?

I do like the frame overall, techs look good, nice HA, cute expression. Enjoyed viewing, thank you so much for sharing!

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

The water line kills it for me Jon, sorry.

Based on 'as posted' I feel the headed needed to be more square on, rather than slightly angled.
