I captured this image in woodland in the Cairngorm mountain range, Scotland. It was during one of those brief spells where it wasn't raining or snowing. Seeds were used as bait.

Lovely color harmony between bird, perch, background. Nice angle in the frame, effective DOF. Interesting perch without being over powering to the small bird.
Hi Jon ... very nice shot with of a common bird .
Bird nicely separated from the BG , but could become better IMHO ... just drive the colors more apart , to create a " greener " BG and the subject will pop really really well .
Overall tones looking good , as well as the fine details .... nicely done .
Love that head angle and super sharp face! That said, I think the lack of light really hurt you on in the DOF department, most of the perch being OOF. It would have helped if the birds was looking right; that way his
gaze would pull ours away from the OOF perch instead of towards it. I always want the bird looking out from a sloping perch.
Beautiful color and detail for me. I also like the DOF as is. The interesting perch leads your eye to the subject and that face/eye without competing with the main subject. TFS
Thanks very much everyone, I went for widest aperture deliberately - to keep ISO as low as possible and to minimise background interference, I felt these two parameters superseded DOF.
