I love this image -- the soft light, the calling pose, and the clouds are all great. I'd suggest moving the bird back in the frame a bit.

Hi Joe ... really cool shot with a great shooting angle , the spread wings and the calling pose ... not to forget the lovely sky .
I just think I would ban this Denoise ... just killed a lot of details , IMHO . Check the legs and feet ... just one smooth black surface with no structure alt all !!! Topaz has just left the larger structure alone .....

    Just my take

Hi Andreas, thank you for viewing and commenting. I have used Topaz Denoise and Neat Image for noise reduction for a long time. Sometimes I use both on different versions of the same image and compare them side by side. With the updated Topaz Denoise AI most times it is the best for reducing noise and preserving detail. I think what you are seeing in the legs and feet is because they were slightly behind the zone of critical focus. These Great Egrets are pretty big birds and although the two dimensional image doesn't adequately show the feet dangling behind the head where the focus point was. Posted is a JPEG of the original without noise reduction or sharpening.

Artistically, this is a really striking and beautiful image, but it leaves something to be desired on the technical side. I can see what Andreas mean about smoothed detail, especially
on the legs which look a bit plastic. The image does look perfectly sharp to start with -- the bird's huge size certainly making it difficult to get the whole thing in perfect focus -- but
I think you did a decent salvage job. I imagine you had to go heavy on the sharpening which introduced nods which you then smoothed out. The branches behind were rough,
and it's pretty clear you did some serious cloning around the feet since we can see major artifacts.

The clouds make this image. I love the pose.
