Hi folks for a break from the R3 ... I went through older folders and stumbled over this one .
Image taken in South Luangwe NP in Zambia , back in 2019

The colony was located right on the steep banks of the Luangwa river .

    Canon EOS 1Dx II
    EF 500 IS L II + 1,4 TC
    HH

    F 6,3 ; Iso 2000 ; 1/2000 sec

Processed With DPP 4 and PSCC 2022 ; cropped for comp to about 50 % of FF ; original was shot in landscape orientation

Thanks for looking and commenting to my previous thread

    Cheers Andreas

I like your decision to go with vertical here Andreas! Nice pose, beautiful colors on the bird. Light looks like it might have been challenging as the rock/dirt seems sort of bright on my monitor and is competing a little with the bird a little (but just a little). Still nicely done!!

Hi Andreas, beautiful bird, nicely shown. I like the composition with the bird diagonal in the frame. I agree with Kurt that what appears to be a termite mound is quite bright. Maybe double process this image? Thank you for sharing.

The above comments also reflect my immediate impression too, I would be inclined to subdue the sand.

Thanks folks ... I hear you about the sand .
I tried to darken the sand .... via different methods , but never felt comfortable with the results ....

Lovely bird and great setting, Andreas. Head angle and detail are awesome.

The color looks a bit much across the frame, and I'd move the bird to the right and/or loosen the crop since he's looking into the short side of the frame as is. Going 8 x 10 might help with that.

Thanks Dorian ... I am ok with the crop / composition .

Regarding the colors , matter of taste ... my thinking was that sun was low and really intense so I left the saturation as captured ( with the used picture style ) . But I can see some lower saturation as well , thanks for that pointer

    Cheers Andreas
