    Default Waking for the Night...

EOS R6 Rf 100-500 @500 f8 1/1000 ISO 16000(yes, three zeros) HH, Manual EXP cropped from horizontal frame for portrait and to eliminate clutter

Was walking just before sunset on my way out of wetland. Spotted this young night heron(yellow crowned, I believe) deep in a pond apple bramble. Finally found a clear way through the branches for a view of that colorful eye without too much clutter.

Thanks, as always, for valued inputs on previous posts.

Amazing for ISO 16k! Clean and sharp. Would have been good to have the bill tip sharp as well.

Great detail for ISO 16000, but think you could have been a lot lower. 1/1000 not really needed for a portrait like this. I like the eye contact but unsure about the pose. I wish the beak was a bit sharper too. At f/8 already not sure there is much you could have done about it except for a parallel pose.
