I was happy to come across a small flock of eight Pine Grosbeaks a couple of weeks ago. These guys (or female in this case) are pretty tolerant of people and will very often allow close approach...hopefully from eye level such as here! This one was kind enough to venture out to the very edge of the crabapple tree, offering fantastic views and photo ops.
Canon R6 + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC III, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/800s., f/5.6, ISO 1600, natural light, handheld, FF, eye work to rid bad reflections in there.
Love the way the subject and fruit just pops off that uniform neutral BG. As usual beautiful colors and detail throughout and of course well framed FF canvas. TFS
This is fantastic, Dan. I'm not usually a fan of flight light but the berries and bird really crack in the gray surrounds. Perfect eye contact, and I like how the wing tips stick out from the body. A very memorable frame!
