This Juvenile Sandhill crane was by the side of the road and had pulled this clump of grass.

Nice looking juvenile and cute with the clump of grass. It looks like the image was made with pretty harsh light. I wish that you could have gotten lower to smooth out part of the BG and draw more attention to the head/clump.

I agree with Lana - that lighting is brutal! You might try lowering the brightness in pp (post production.) I would also consider cutting the image off at the top of the grass and leaving that concrete somewhere else! Nice sharpness to the bird - you got some great feather detail!

Amazing how fast they grow. Harsh light but I have to agree with Lana on this one.

Your critiques aqre right on. Seeems like I did everything wrong on this image. :(
My 40D is is the shop and this Canon XTi had the contrast and color bumped up and that was my mistake. Angle was because there was a grocery store behind this bird and each side had a 65 MPH highway running and behind was a trailer park trailers. I also got some images just down the road with a group of 2 Sandhills and had one walk straight towards me up to about 5-7 feet. I couldn't believe it. I will still need this bird for my list but will wait on my 40D before going back again. Probably wont see them again but I will find them before long. Thanks

Hey Bill.....sometimes we do the wrong things for the right reason......like avoiding signs, grocery stores, etc. We've all "been there, done that". Given the circumstances, I think you did ok. Crop a little off the top, try to subdue the contrast in RAW conversion and PS and try a little blurring on the BG.....it may turn this into a much better image.

    Hi Bill,

    Were you using Manual exposure?

Hi Maxis, I was using Av mode. I hardly ever go manual, :)
