    Default Male Prairie Chicken Nebraska

Shot on my favorite Lek in Nebraska last spring. Have birds trained to take perches. This is a setup. Branch is all I had available. Wanted a small branch to keep the bird off balance to show some movement or wings open. Not really trained, birds in Nebraska have more perches than the prairies of South Dakota. Really hard to get birds in SD to fly to a perch.

Really unique pose to me. I am not sure I have seen a Prairie Chicken perched on a twig before. Love the raised foot. Unfortunately looks like you had some harsh light and it appears to be over-exposed. I would certainly bring down the exposure a bit in post. Not sure if you clipped the yellows but it looks like you might have. Hope there is more detail I there to bring back.

Hi Kevin, a fun image, love the raise foot and open beak, that branch doesn't look like it could take the weigh of the bird?

Techs look good, but I feel you wouldn't have needed any Topaz DN, and if you have gone Auto (not required back it right down, and applied it to a Tiff) then this might be partially to blame for flattening out some of the plumage detail??? The darks just create a bit of a hard contrast, but that's just me. I might loose the blue in the perch.

    Nice to see you back.

    Kevin:

Like the pose, open bill, angle in the frame. Comp is good.

I might move my watermark down more to the corner, rather distracting as is. For my taste, too much of a yellow color cast. I don't know what time of day this was taken, but the contrast is pretty high, so I suspect it wasn't really quite this yellow. Personal taste of course. I do agree with Kurt about the exposure.

    Cheers

Killer scene and pose! Amazing the twig can even hold him up. Lovely detail on the bird, especially the feet. The throat, in particular, might be a bit hot, so I think the suggestions to tame the exposure are wise. I'm OK with the color cast, but it might pop a bit more if you cooled it down just a touch. Love that engaging look and open beak.

Hi Kevin ... a funny looking balancing act of the subject !
What a warm light hitting the scene ... does look almost surreal to me , here in mostly winter grey mid Europe .
I like this one a lot for the most part ... for me , the highlights are a tiny bit " hot" or just too bright .
Look at the single red RGB channel ... there is not much , if not , no detail in the lighter tones . So my goal would be , tame the red channel in post .... and you will get more details in the RGB composite .

    Lovely image and TFS Andreas
