    Default Buller's Albatross (Chile)

Light was f'ing awful, seas were rough, and the boat configuration sucked, but I walked away with a few keepers on this dreary, windy pelagic trip from Valparaíso.

Bird (and hundreds of Kelp Gulls) was lured towards the boat with chum. Keeping the gulls out of the frames was very difficult!

And since it's basically the exact same shot (at 1/4000 vs. 1/3200), here's a Salvin's Albatross for comparison.

Hi Dorian, both albatrosses look stunning. Fantastic wing spread. I like how both birds are parallel to the camera so we get the killer underwing details. The whites look really good to my eye. In my experience, the way the albatrosses fly make it extremely difficult to get everything right. Especially from a boat.

I never shot from a boat before, but can certainly imagine the challenges. So kudos on this image Dorian! I like the head turn, the wingspan must not be easy to fit into the frame. Nice work!

Hi Dorian ... love the variety of your postings , you seemed to have had a great time in Chile.

Cool subjects , well captured ... love the almost monochromatic feel , thanks to the dull weather . Made it easy to control the tones .

Both images are too tight for my taste .... those large birds needs more space to breath , just my take .

    TFS Andreas
