Hi folks ... easier to shoot a portrait of this species , compared to a flight shot .
Well for sure not in general , just at this location in my hometown .

The fine details are pretty darn sweet. Beautiful BG, and the gull's bill looks great with its colour. Bummer about the new feathers growing around the gape, but I suppose this depicts natural history. The title is referring tot the gull looking like it is laughing, but out of curiosity what species is this? (There is a "Laughing Gull" on this side of the pond).

Looks like a Black-headed gull to me, (?) the plumage detail is really quite superb.

    Andreas, another super portrait amigo!

Love the pose and the blue to orange gradient do wonders. Fantastic reflection and glassy feel in the eye.

Absolutely splendid textures in the subject's plumage. My only suggestions would be to brush in a little more texture in the beak and mouth as it looks just a little plastic-like to me.

And perhaps a touch more right in frame, but overall, love it!

Looks good all around. Really like that gradient in the background. Detail is great.

Thanks folks .... for your kind comments .

This is indeed a " Black headed Gull " as Jon said . I just translated the common German name into English and funny enough had a fitting title for this posting , without even noticing how good the title is.

Daniel feathers are as they are , no need to complain about it from my side .

Brian - I hear you , but I do not really see the need of more texture in a very smooth bill , looking quite natural to me . But I would agree about moving the comp a bit to the left would not hurt !!!

    TFS Andreas
