I took this image on a very bright sunny afternoon in Southeastern Arizona late May of this year. The white on the edge of the lower wing is in the original, not a sharpening effect. Post processing consisted of cropping, some S/H, a very light sharpening, and neat image. Oh yeah, the frame.

Hi Lisa- lovely bird - I like the outstretched wings and the eye contact.

    IMHO..
I think the harsh light is the main issue here, looks a little dark on my monitor.
I applied some shadow / highlight and it brightened it up a bit - but you mentioned you had already done S/H - which would lead me to think the original might have been a little under.

    KEEP THEM COMING...

Lance, you nailed it! Lisa, your original image was very nice - great head angle and eye contact, nice composition, good detail. It DID look a bit dark on my monitor as well and I think Lance gave it just the boost it needed.

Lance, thanks for doing more SH on him, I think you are right - he was underexposed. I was actually driving down a road when I saw him sitting on an Agave shoot. Pulled over (no one else on the road), got the camera out and as just as I turned it on a Mockingbird came to harass him. I started shooting, and being the ditz I am didn't change exposure or anything. I'm lucky I managed what I did. This was the best shot of the lot.
    Julie, thanks for the comment.

awesome pose on the bird!! looks fantastic!! on images like this it helps to have the sun behind your back. looks like the sun here was left and above leaving the front of the bird dim. you did great with the conditions. congrats!!!

You guys are doing great !!!!! I thought the original was really good as Jules pointed out!!!!

For shadow highlight there is one setting you might want to try Seems to work very well and reduces the chances for halos 25-55-245 Might like it !!!

    Alfred,
I tried it with your numbers (I think).
    Under Shadow/Highlight:
    Shadows
    Amount: 25%
Tonal Width: 55% Picture looked very nice
Radius: 245 - think I missed something, made him as dark as he was originally.
I'm sure I'm doing this wrong, Radius of 245? am I goofing that up?
    Lisa
