Default Pure frustration ending up in dominance ....

... that's what this image is about .

Hi folks , this big grey seal bull was just frustrated, because only limited numbers of females were available on the beaches of Helgoland back in jan of 2016 . By the month of januar mating season is mostly done ...so the bulls are still there in bigger numbers . As a result they do fight more for the few females ... and the less dominant bulls are the losers of that situation . Ending up in frustration .... to overcome that frustration , some of them go for pups or smaller seals . Regardless of the size they are trying to mate with them .... some are not surviving this behavior .
    But that is nature !!!

    Dear Andreas,

Suppose it was a little painful to watch and not interfere... But the photographer in you did the right thing, captured reality as it unfolded in front of the lens. The expression on the subjects' face says it all, although I also appreciate the extra information in your intro.

Good timing and nice techs, Boetie. Light is superb and brings out a lot of detail. Framing spot-on. Well done on the extra canvas, would not have known if you did not mention it. BG looks good too.
I really appreciate the behavioural aspect here. A well captured and processed image and I am glad you shared it with us, thank you so much

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

That is some moment to capture.

The behavior is unusual and great that you were able to capture it.
Nice techs and good IQ as always. .

I think this image could get you an award , the expressions are terrific.

    TFS !

Processing spot on the expressions are priceless, the story, well that's nature I suppose a bit of a bland statement but any more and I feel anthropomorphism would intervene.
