Good job with the repair Lance! Great underwing detail and eye contact. You held the whites nicely by nailing your EC. My only issue with this image is the perch. I like all the angles in it, but as presented it places the bird in the center of the frame. Also, by trying to include the top of the branch, you diminish the size of the bird in the frame. I'd personally crop some off the top, putting the bird higher in the frame. Thanks for posting!
Thanks for the comments Doug - I struggled with the crop because I liked all the angles as well, will see what everyone else comes up with. :)
Hey Lance,
I like it as presented. The composition is balanced. good capture and image. You have a good head angle and great eye contact. The baby blue sky makes him pop...congrats...
G`day Lance:
Like all aspects of your photo` well done. My curiosity would like to see it in a square format as I think it would be a bit more dynanic . . . Would't be the first time I thought wrong!
Keep up the good work . . . Gus
Excellent shot Lance. Great composition and sharpness.
I love this composition. I like the way the branch leads you into the bird. I'm not bothered that the bird is slightly small in the frame. Maybe not ideal for web presentation but in a large print I don't think that would be an issue.
I love the details in the whites! I still have trouble with getting that exposure correct! Very nice. I would like to see a bit more room behind the wing. I know usually you add room for the bird to fly into. But to me, I can tell this bird just flew onto the perch, but from where? I know it isn't going forward, and without a little bit of space behind it, it seems like the bird just popped into the picture from nowhere. I love the sharpness and details. It keeps you looking and examining the details of the bird.
I think you've got two great images in one. If you crop off most of the perch and really put the attention on the bird, then you have a wonderful bird image. If you leave it as is, you've got a stunning fine art type of print. Either way, it's a keeper.
Lance, beautiful work on this image. I think Julie hit the nail on the head - you actually have two images in one.
You really have the whites exposed well, I really struggle with that.
Agree with previous and wanted to complement you on the PS work !!! Big Congrats Lance !!!! :)
i agree with doug. i'd move him higher in the frame. maybe you could do some pruning so the limb didnt get cut by the frame. nice PS work!! beautiful bird!
Thanks everyone - would you beleive this image very nearly went into the rubbish bin. Only thanks to the APTATS CD that it didn't.
:)
Lance..I would just like to see one of those guys!!! I agree with Julie, either or on this one, super job!
Pretty photo! Ditto what Julie said!
It's amazing the number of keepers that you discover, particularly as you get better with PS.
