We had another nesting pair of Least Bitterns out at the water ranch this year. I was too late getting to the nest to photograph it, but while I was shooting Snowies, I found out they have taken flight as this one gave me a quick fly by. I only had a few seconds to grab some images, so couldn't stop down anymore to get the feet in focus too.

A stunner. And totally amazing with the TC on the 200-600! Love the bird and the image.

what a sweet image Kurt, you are doing very good work with the zoom + TC at f/9. This is a tough shot to nail the focus on the head, a few years back would have been impossible before the Sony gear came out. from here I'd just sharpen the head 10% more. love the fuzz on the head and the subtle colors of the BG....

Kurt, you did well to get this. I like that there is a slightly upward and banking trajectory despite the flat wing angle.

Really great eye contact and loving the little soft head plumage.

For me this one feels pretty green, so might revisit white balance and see what you think. Also, I think you could add a bit more sharpening to combat the noise reduction.

Overall a winner from my view!

Kurt this is really nice. They head/eye is sharp and those "rows" of feathers on the neck/chest are just too much! Thanks.
