The subject holds my attention, being well focused and detailed, the eye looks spot on and the droplet on the bill adds interest. As you say the water is neither here nor there, the subject is the grebe.

Great shot, love the clarity, colors and action on the water but I would bring the bird a bit forward in the frame and maybe crop a fraction tighter. The vast expanse of blurry water in the front seems unnecessary while the grebe seems to deserve a bit more for all that detail.

Nice low angle and I really like the water drop hanging from the bill. Nothing you can do about the choppy water. I think the placement in the frame is perfect IMO.

Nice detail on the bird Andreas, ....Good HA and the drop adds...I would try reducing the HL's on the water....It looks a wee bit bright to me, against the bird...

Andreas, cool shot of this little fella. The water drop off the beak is sweet!

I think you captured details nicely in the subject. Composition is ok for me, perhaps a touch lower in frame could help.

I'll send ya an email soon. TFS amigo!

The color of the bird surprised me as all of our small grebes are a dark brown. Good job with the processing and the color of the water. And yes to some off the bottom.
