    A Male Red shafted Northern Flicker cleaning out a nest cavity of some
    eggs and embryo material after a Starling invasion.
    D500,500mm (300 w/ 1.7) f4.8, 1/5000, iso800
    A few of us spent hours and hours documenting this nest to get photos like this..

    Are you sure that's not a fecal sack from the flicker's young? Regardless, love the position of the wings and feet. The eye looks like it may be a bit soft either from AF or motion blur.

    Thanks David, you are correct, a fecal sack , I have others with other material they cleaned out, misstated this one.

    nice one Dan, like the dynamic wing positions, BG isn't ideal but not much you could do from this angle ....all else is great

    Yes to sharp with an interesting behavior. The background is the background. One a cloudy day would help there.
