Will, happy Glorious 12th! Now I'm wondering if we start calling you the Grouse Governor, all these fine shots you've made :-p

This is a really fine canvas. The pose atop the rock is sweet and I find the rock cliffs [presumably] in the bkg a nice compliment especially as the darker bands stop at the subject's head.

Tone and details are solid. I assume a little more crop than some of the others? Nothing wrong, just curious.

Some might choose to evict the grasses in lower left, just from a cleanliness standpoint as the composition is so simple and clean. Otherwise, you might see if it could benefit from a slight sat punch - specifically in the red crown and some of the pinks and beige in the bkg.

    Well done friend!

Thanks for that Brian...The BG is the side of hill covered in grasses and Heather, which is a purple coloured flower, that grows here in abundance...This is typical habitat for Red Grouse...They sleep, eat and nest in the Heather. Occasionally you get lucky and one will come out ,but usually all you see is the small head and wee red 'eyebrows' popping up..

Yes this is a wee bit more of my usual crop, as I usually get real close, should have had the 1.4 on here...

Could not wish for a better pose, Will. Lovely image and I like the background. As well as colours, rich tonality and detail.

Composition works well for me. Like Brian, I am somehow tempted to remove the bits of grass, but only because the rest of the frame is so neat and clean
Oh, and those orange 'eyebrows' are really cool

Have a lovely rest of the week, thank you for sharing,

    Kind regards,

Again Will killing it with the Grouse. I love looking at your Photos. Me personally would leave the little bit of grass. Lovely pose on a great focal point being the rock somewhat different which is good. Love those red eyebrows. Colors all the way around great.
By the way WiLL have you seen any of British artist Andrew Ellis's work? Lots of grouse and usually a Falcon involved. The best Raptor artist any where in the world IMO.TFS

Such gorgeous birds. Love the pose and the framing. The light as well. Just read up about the hunting situation an interesting read for sure.

Lovely clean image, Will. Crawling around in the Moors again chasing grouse, ehhhh. Beautiful bird, nice background, works for me. Thank you for me.

Don't know this species so can't really comment on the details - but as always the image is clear and gotta love those furry legs! lol. TFS.
