I am trying to pay attention to several things here. I wanted all of the flower sharp from front to back (prep for the next assignment), I wanted the texture of the white petals to be sharp and vivid, and I wanted to try "exposing to the right" and adjusting in PS Elements 6.
I am pleased with the results and look forward to your comments on how to improve the image even more.
It certainly looks like you accomplished all you set out to do. I love the texture in this, and the dof. I might crop from the left some, I am not sure how I feel about the 2 buds, I think they are distracting. I guess I wish the flower were more "in your face" becasue it is lovely and shouldn't have to compete.

Thanks for the comments. I also thought about a tighter crop and thought about the buds. I decided I liked them, and I'm glad to get your point of view on this. We are often not our own best critics. I have lots of images of the flower, many more "in your face." I'll be playing around with them and viewing the different compositions side-by-side.
Thanks again for the thoughtful comments

i do like the idea of tighter here, but i like the bg too. i think the flower itself is underexposed. it pops a lot more if you could brighten just the whites!! i tried it and it looked awesome. saved the file too big and was too lazy to do it again:( you had a beautiful subject. would love to see some more!!
Thanks Alfred. I must tell you and everyone at this forum how very much I am learning from your comments. When I first finished post-processing of this image, my eyes popped. I couldn't believe how much of an improvement I could see in my work. I know it is just a step along a journey. This forum is just a super resource.
Could be the best $20 I ever spent

Hi Gail,
I love your composition as presented. The whites just need to be kicked up a notch; but everything else is top notch. You accomplished what you wanted to do. As far as composition, my personal taste would be to come in closer on a tighter crop factor; but thats me. Remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you are happy with your creation, or light painting, then thats whats important...good show, and congrats...I like it...:D:cool:
Thanks Gus. I agree that in the end, you are the final judge of your own photos. If a good part of photography is learning to see, that's one place where the thoughts and judgements of other folks can be helpful in expanding our vision. I think...
Thanks again
Gail
