These birds will be flying off soon back to Africa.....I captured this one, in my fave Grouse Glen earlier this year.....The perch is a rock covered in dried out lichens...HH....ACR and PS2021.

Will, this is a real gem my friend.

About as nice a pose as you can get, both feet IF and just enough of the tail to get it all in. Just super details in the plumage, really well processed. Love that bit of buff color in the neck and flank.

Might be a very thin shadow along the neck, could be a masking remnant but worth a check. Also, because so much of the perch is OOF, I might take some off the bottom and add a little above.

All that said, this is a treat to view. Love it, well done!

Very nice indeed Will, my only suggestion would be to take a little off the base and add a tad to the top. If inclined, I suppose you could squeeze a little detail from the dark feathers between the base of the bill and the eye.

Thanks Jon.....my POV was slightly above the bird...I left more on the bottom with less on the top in an attempt to give a better POV.....But, yes I see your thinking...

Hi Will, nice image and the BKG colour is very complimentary to the subject. Some more DoF would have been better as you had plenty of ISO, which would have been nice for the legs, are you shooting wide open at f/6.3? Can't see anything on the neck, but just watch around the bill, if you are using masks then show the mask colour, you will then see what is concealed & revealed. The perch works, but not crazy on the OOF pattern, just jars a bit, just needs a tad more above.

Thanks for that Steve.....totally agree with DOF....f/8 with higher ISO would have been better......with the 1.4 on I get f/5.6.....I went to f/6.3 for this shot.....Then he flew....

Yes Will...this is very very nice. I agree with Brian's comments re the thin shadow on the neck, and the crop suggestion.

Other than his being turned away from us I really like this. The head turn of course helps with that backside view. TFS.
