It was 10 minutes before sunset and this heron flew in to perch right in front of me. It left just as quickly but I got a few keepers. Canon EOS R5, 500 f/4L (old five) + 1.4x III, 1/640, f/5.6, ISO 2000.

Lovely light, perhaps a bit hot around the face? A difficult crop given the busy perch. I would have at least removed that lonely branch on the right.
Maybe a touch of CCW rotation to get the left leg vertical?

Sweet, sweet light makes this one. Agree with Colin's points. TFS

Yes, I agree about the face area. I did some selective burning but I guess, it wasn't enough. I will remove the branch on the right and post another photo. I debated whether to rotate the image or not because my camera was on a tripod and the built-in level was green when I took the image. But when I looked on the computer, the image looked tilted. So I went back to the same location and took another image of the branch being 100% certain that my camera was perfectly horizontal and my original image needed roughly 1/3 degree CCW rotation (i.e. negligible). Still on the fence whether to rotate it for pleasing the eye or keep true to what the scene looked like. The image is not cropped.

    Thanks for your input.

Here is the updated image. I rotated and cropped the image, added a small amount of canvas in the upper left corner (to give more space above the head of the heron) and adjusted curves, levels, saturation, noise. Removed the extra branch from the right side.

The light was nice. Not an easy bird to photograph in New York.
