Hi folks ... a close up of " flehmin " Lion male .
The female in heat just out of the frame .... made him go crazy .
    Image taken in Etosha NP

Wished for better light ... but the female decided to move around at that time of the day . The whole pride of 16 lions was resting in one of these concrete tubes under the major road in the park .... from time to time they came out and went for water or to make other business . Not delivering good shooting angles as the road is quite elevated at that spot .... and it was very busy with truck loads of cars .

    Canon EOS 1Dx II
    EF 200 - 400 IS L at 400 mm
    Beanbag

    F 10 ; Iso 2000 ; 1/2000 sec

Processed with DPP 4 and PSCC 2021 ; cropped from LHS for comp ... the rest is full frame . With hindsight I should have zoomed out .... but I did not .... so I am stuck with the potential compositions .

Thanks for looking and commenting to my previous posting

    Cheers Andreas

    Hello Andreas,

Interesting pose from this male lion, light seems harsh but you handled the conditions quite well. Nice composition, getting close allows the viewer to observe the slightly worn out teeth and expression on the subject's face... an almost menacing grimace, ears pointing backwards, good to see some detail in those eyes. You must have been pretty close, right?

Colours look good and nice detail on the muzzle, those wrinkles give lots of character. Well exposed too... nice work Andreas

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Hi Andreas, looks very harsh light, I might be tempted to sacrifice the bright light and pull back some tone, adding more depth and reducing the harshness, but your call, just a thought.
