Got a bit wet in the mud with this one, a non-breeding Crested tern....but worth it. I took a number of shots, but waited until I had the head turn I was after. I appreciate the feedback as always. Cheers.

Good angle and exposure, tones good. Just looking at the mud in the water and at the front does it have a slight yellow cast?

Well worth getting low and dirty here Paul, with a nice natural perch too. Good details and sharp, but wonder if you have lifted the blacks too much? I'm OK with the overall colour/mud, but feel there might be just a tad too much negative space above, going a wee bit tighter helps IMHO.

Right call on NOT using Topaz DN at such an ISO, the image doesn't warrant the application.

Thanks Jonathan and Steve. I can't see any yellow cast on my calibrated monitor Jonathan. Steve: I'll take another look at the blacks and try your crop suggestion. Cheers.

Paul, only if you lifted them in PP, if you did then just perhaps pulling back down on the master file is the easy way to go, then output.

Paul, kudos for putting the effort in and waiting for the right frame. That's a nice reward when it happens :-)

Overall, I like the composition. You captured nice details in the plumage and exposure as presented looks super. Whites and overall tint/warmth seem fine to me.

Is there perhaps a part of the nictitating membrane close on the subject? It's hard to tell but the upper half of the eye just looks to have a different texture. Could just be me, but the point being it would have been sweet for a bit more catchlight, though only a very minor nit.

I could get past the light/dark striations I think as the bokeh/blur helps. If you wanted to push the envelope, perhaps cloning the left mud pile entering the picture would be a suggestion as I don't think cropping in to lose it would benefit the overall composition (i.e. room to look into).

    TFS!

Hi Paul, I like the overall composition and wouldn't go any tighter if me, but that's maybe just my opinion. I like how you processed the image as well. looks good to me..nicely done!

Thanks Brian and Kurt. I appreciate the feedback.
Brian: Yes, the mud pile on the LHS bugged me too, and I agree regarding the eye. I tried a closer crop and a clone job, but wasn't happy with the outcome on either, so left as is. It's good that you mentioned it, because I feel that if others are picking things that I pick as well means I'm learning all the time. I'm going back to try to clone that out again. Cheers.

Neat looking tern. Kind of looks like the royal terns over here. I like the framing. The mud perch is pretty neat.

Lost the left hand mud, did some Eye Doctor work and BKGR smoothing. And probably some more. All as in Digital Basics II. I see no YELLOW cast and the BLACKs look pretty good as well. Oh, and a small crop to a pano.

    with love, artie

Hi John...thank you for the feedback...always appreciated.
Artie: You beat me to it...lol. Went back earlier today and cloned the mud on the LHS...pretty much how your repost looks, but did not do the eye, BG smoothing or the pano crop. The re post looks better...thank you!
