Cool! Nice and sharp. Beauty BG. A bit of a bluish cast here and there. Do you have more at left? perhaps about an inch more as posted? I love the eye - quite a mean look, and one of concentration too.

Hi Wayne. Ditto Daniel's comments. Love the flight pose and the feather detail. Just found this...it may help? Of course, there are other methods as well. Cheers.

A difficult one to frame, and not being a big crop could be cut in closer for a portrait to emphasize the evil eye.

I agree with previous comments about color cast. I do wish the bird was a bit more left in the frame. Still nice detail and good work!

Hi Wayne ... cool flight shot with a nice view to the head area .
I do agree with the others about the blues .... your call which way to remove them , best is to get WB right and already reduce them in the raw converter . And it is possible to do it .... no need to wait till the image is baked in PS .
If this was mine ... I would keep on eye the tail feathers , they are solid black with no detail showing up in some areas .

    Nice one and TFS

    Hey All,

Thank you for your valued input, didnt even pick up the blue cast until you all pointed it out. I couldn't reframe the pic but found another shot taken a few frames later. Think I have addressed the cast and frame now what do you thinkName: Vulture Head Shot 2.jpg

Much better IMO, now might do with a bit of eye work to get it out of the shadow.

The RP is much better for me Wayne.

I agree with Colin.. with the eye away from the light source some selective screening/dodging will help there.

Normally I don't love tight flight shots but I think you did well here on composition. The eye is fierce!

Yes Wayne...I like the RP better too. Killer look on the Vultures' face! I'm fine with the overall crop.

A cool capture Wayne and I like the framing. Yes the blue and tail shadows are an issue and you may have pushed the HL's a fraction too much, pulling everything down, provided nothing is blown will bring more detail & tone, but avoiding the tail darker areas. Are you shooting manual and using the Histogram? I might consider a tad off the top, rather than adding to the LHS, but Dan is far more experienced than I am on Avian.

Confused on why you sue DXO & LR????

The edit is a very quick & rough one, just my take on the OP...

    Hey Steve
Thank you so much for taking the time to review my post and even taking the time to re-edit, really appreciate it. I will take the raw file and have a relook at it as you explained. I do shoot in manual and normally use the histogram - for these shots I must be honest I was scrambling a little, sun was getting quite strong and lots of shadows. For the OP there is no more room on the top. I use DXO to convert from Raw and the Deep Prime processing, LR to do touchups. I was originally using LR for the Raw conversion but found that I seemed to get better results with DXO. DXO also has the lens correction modules.
Can definitely see more detail in your edit especially in the tail. The head would obviously need to get its blue color back but yes more detail there too. Thank you very much again for giving me some of your time.

    Cheers

Hi Wayne, if DXO works for you and delivers the desired results fine, but forget LR and use PS. LR is more Global, PS is far better, more options and with layers, masks etc you have a far greater way of being selective and ultimately control.

Blue, interesting, would expect it to be more neutral...

Nice job on the composition. I do like the framing. Interesting colors on the face.
