I love it as well! Nice of the skimmer to turn its head a bit towards you. Sharp, and a good look at the grooves" along the lower mandible. I do feel that more room above (and right to retain the ratio) would help the comp.

John, fantastic 'beachy' feel here with the sand/tan colored bkg.

Super soft textures in the plumage and gritty in the beak. The orange really pops.

I could see a version with the subject just slightly lower in frame. Otherwise, don't think I'd touch a thing. This rocks!

Love the open beak and nice HA. I am fine with the space in the frame. Nice work!

Nice work, John. Exposure and tones look good, open mouth adds interest. Lovely image, thank you for sharing.

Ditto all the positives here John. Just wondering...the darks look a tad soft to me from the upper neck down. They are for sure soft textures in the plumage as Brian mentions, but wondering if there is more detail to extract here?

cool soft light, the open beak and close up view of the serrations on the lower beak is nice. sharp on the eye, I'd try to get a bit more detail in the whites
