This little one surprised me posing just barely in the sunlight. They spend most of their time on the ground, so went with a portrait. I was shooting flying hummers and should have dialed back my ISO to lower my shutter speed (shooting Av), but didn't have time. He stayed for about 2 seconds.

Solid portrait. Lots of good detail.
The shadow on the upper eye is a bit of a bummer and the BG color is complimentary- just wish it was less plain.
The HA and tilt gives the junco a nice pensive pose but unfortunately creates the shadow,

Very nice Kurt....Good detail...Not sure if that is shadow as Gail mentioned...Looks like part of the eye colour....Nice HA and colours throughout.

Wow you got close here!?!? You can almost see the desert dust on the feathers.

Composition works nicely and love the simple, smooth bkg. Sharpness all day long. Do agree the shadows take away just a touch, esp on the eye but all else is a green light for me!

Clean, tight, and graphic, just like I like them :). I am not sure if that is a shadow from the brow across the top of the eye or ??? I am puzzled by the shadow on the bird in the LLC ...

A fine portrait for sure. I do like the framing and the background. The feather detail is great.

Hi Artie, the shadow is because he was barely in the light (just the head) which is why I went with a portrait. hope that explains. Also, I am also not sure if the eye is a shadow. I was wondering the same thing. Seems like a weird place for a shadow though. I think it might be part of the membrane.

I was going to ask about the SS, but since you had no time you did what is best to do and just go for it! It turned out very nice. Whatever it is on the eye is unfortunate IMO, but still a pretty neat close up of this bird.

neat close up and lots of fine details here, the shadow on the neck and pupil is small but I still wish it wasn't there

Hi Kurt ... nice portrait and I do like that golden eye .
Tone and color are looking good to me .
Personally I think there is too much noise /grain visible i.e. in the beak and eye . Should be no problem to remove it ... if you like .
