Another Flying Male Martin, when they are actively flying around the nest boxes you get crazy poses.....

Almost looks like the bird is standing in mid air. It's sharper than the pervious post.

    Thanks John,
Tough crowd here.. this is sharp, this is a Martin, not a big duck, not a large raptor, a bird smaller than a Robin that fly's very fast

Dan, hey I hear you man. I stared at the previous one a while but couldn't put a nail on it.

I think the shadows leave a bit to be desired, but I really think it's more of an IQ thing than a sharpness issue.

That said, I have nothing this small in flight in my portfolio so I give you props for even getting it in focus. Super well done in that regard!

super tough shot to get in flight and you did well, very tough to get the 500PF + 1.4X TC to lock....on a D500, I wouldn't have tried.... I think the focus is sharp but the sharpening in post process has made it look a bit crunchy/coarse. I think if you reduce the contrast and decrease the sharpening reduce it will cure the coarse look

Yes, it is sharp and a tough one to pull off with the gear you have. But it is not pleasing to my eye. The huge problem is that the image is way too contrasty -- pretty much par for the course with iridescent purple/black birds in full sun.

A wickedly tough shot. Love the pose and colors. Hopefully you can jag some softer light sometime.

Hey Dan, agreed that it is a tough shot to get. I wish I could! But the harshness of the contrast doesn't work for me either!

    Best wishes, Gerald
