Laughing Gull in breeding plumage head portrait

This image was created on 10 April 2021 on the first DeSoto IPT. For this one I used the Induro GIT 304L/Levered-clamp FlexShooter Pro-mounted Sony FE 600mm f/4 GM OSS lens, the Sony FE 2.0x Teleconverter, and The One, the Sony Alpha 1 Mirrorless digital camera. ISO: 1000. The exposure was determined by Zebras with Exposure Compensation on the rear wheel: 1/1000 sec. at f/8 (wide open) in Manual mode. AWB at 72am on a clear sunny morning. Wide/AF-C was active at the moment of exposure and again performed to perfection.

You can learn more about the creation of this image and about the The Laughing Gull/Red Knot (and more) DeSoto Picking Your Keepers Video in the blog post here.

As for the image, don't be shy. All comments are welcome and appreciated.

As a huge fan of tight portraits, this one ticks many if not all of the boxes for me. I love the faint lines in the bill, and the view of the sun rising above the tree line in the eye. The Ring-billed Gulls are looking spiffy up here right now too...but these guys look even better!

Artie, I think this classifies as a 'portrait' :-) And a mighty fine one at that!

It's spot on in all facets for me. Beautiful color on the subject, exposed nicely, fabulous textures and details.... that eye-ring is amazing.

Further, a slight transition in the bottom of the bkg really adds. Well done my friend!

just lovely. The best part for me was you adjusting your POV for the anchored green, without it not as interesting to me. The texture of the head feathers is outstanding, I can almost feel the smooth silkines. Love the eye ring and that red beak. Super!

About as perfect as it gets. Fits your style perfectly, tight, graphic, exposure spot on, detail superb. Thank you for sharing, Artie.
