Default Female Sharptail on Boulder at 8000 ISO

    Attached Images Attached Images

Shot yesterday in Nd. Sharptails are reluctant to go to higher ground unlike Prairie Chickens. Have baited this boulder and have had a male step up when it got slower on the Lek. This day was not baited and the female was only on the boulder for a short time. Trying to get away from the heavy pressure of the males.
This had a heavy blue cast worked with it for sometime. Yes I lost some IQ but I think pretty amazing how far we have come. Processed with Dpp 4,Photoshop,Topaz noise. IMO Topaz is great all the options you have and the job it does have to watch for any oversharpening is the only downfall.
I looked at a vertical crop but wanted the boulder included. I always liked Wills Red Grouse on a boulder. Comments and critiques appreciated.

Hi Kevin, I like the frame but it looks over exposed to me, would like to see a repost so the colors compliment the grouse.

    Beautiful perch and BG.
Perfect clear view of the grouse.
I agrre this looks too bright and would revisit the exposure/brightness/midtones.
Love the pastel colors in BG,
    Gail

Took the exposure down and tweaked a curves adj. I still am getting that blue cast back when I take down the exposure.

Thanks Ann and do agree not sure if the repost is better. Seems like I just bring back to much blue.

I love both versions of this absolute sublime image. The rock rocks, the pose is perfect, and the soft light just glows.

Wow, what a beauty!! I too feel it is rather bright (both versions). If you start with the OP, and in PS "Levels" lower the midtones to 0.75 it looks perfect IMO. Apart form that, what an excellent image!

Kevin, first off I want to commend you on putting in the work. So admirable.

For me, the canvas is superb! I love the composition exactly as-is so you chose well there.

Gorgeous pastel palette and grade A pose. My initial thought was that it is still just a little washed out. I would have been tempted to tweak it and bring in some depth, however the more I look at it the more I feel like it's a very artistic and airy feel, and it's really growing on me. Not sure if that was your intent, but it reminds me of work by Georgina Steytler who is world-class.

    TFS my friend, congrats!

Hi Kevin ... another stunner !!!
Super overall image design and glad you did not crop it tighter .
Personally I really like the " OP high key" effect .
For sure there is some potential to portray the scene with deeper tones , lower exposure and more intense colors .... matter of taste and easily done in PS .
Regarding your " blueish " problems .... easy fix , just set the used adjustment layer ( for more tonal depth or exposure ) to the " luminosity blend mode " and you will have no color shift towards i.e. blue .

    Very nice and TFS Andreas

I like the brightness of this frame. Image quality looks great for the ISO. Not any shadows to hold that noise. Love the perch and the framing. Perfect pose as well.

looks nice Kevin, a bit small on my screen but a fine frame. these type of images are best for high ISO since most of the bird is white....
