Great crested grebe (Podiceps cristatus) - The weed dance
One of these two was one of the the other two in the previous image where there was a fight. It only ocured to me subsequently - some thought dark/underexposed, this was because the grebes are at the side of a bridge and in shade hence the rather muted background and water.

Always great to get the weed dance Jon, not had a chance to get to my local pair this year. A clean BG would have been nice, but on the flip side it does show the traditional area these guys hang around.
Only on the laptop but it does look a little dark to me
Great poses and action. The background is unfortunate as the bird's heads are lost in the tangles ...
with love, artie

Jonathan Love the interaction great capture. Does seem dark as mentioned. Your explanation makes sense still would like a lighter version. Downside for me I didn't initially recognize the material in the bills. Background makes it even harder. TFS
Super pretty view of this pair. You got both faces perfectly. Exposure and details are great. The foliage behind is unfortunate, and there's not much you can do to minimize it here. Still a nice result.
Hi Jon ... a perfect shot in terms of subjects behavior !!!
Well timed .
Personally I cannot fall in love with the BG and the handing of the exposure and tonal range . Easy to say from here ...
Have not been there , when you took the image and do not know how the raw file looks like ....
Regardless of my reservations , I do like the grebes a lot .
