Will, wonderful feather display and pleasing color palette here. The pinks and purples are just really pretty!

I think you chose the right composition based on the subject for sure. A bit unfortunate you had to but the lichen off.

My main feedback would be that the head area (esp) shows noise fairly prominently. See around the eye and even the catchlight?

Also, I have found that if you use Denoise it can help to put an original layer below and brush off of the Denoise mask down to the noisy layer with light opacity. That can help in the blacks, which can appear very smooth at times.

Nice shot Will, you need to use Topaz on the raw file not a DNG not a TIFF - the CR raw file - and not a raw file generated by Topaz. Needs a bit of working out!

Hi Brian...Thanks for that...I agree with you, I was pushing the processing a wee bit too much....Also think my SS was too slow, which didn't help.....Anyway the weather is to be perfect tomorrow, so going to return, keep a high ISO and hopefully a few take off shots with a faster SS...from my 'new' perches

Thanks Jon.....I have been using Topaz after I open it from RAW...First thing I do is crop, then run the DN....I also reduce the sharpening to 0 in RAW......I will try your advice, see how I get on....I have topaz as a plugin in PS....Should I right click the RAW file and open with Topaz before opening in ACR...

Hi Will ... a neat image of this species .
I do like the posing and the clean design , the motion blur in the wings adding somehow action .

The overall IQ is not as good as previous postings , IMHO .

You have soft tones and " hard contrast " at the same time ... the mid tones are softer whereas the HL and deep tones are showing more contrast .
From the color POV I think I would go more neutral .... matter of taste . I do not think the bird is " that pink" in reality . The " reds " should be more brownish .... IMHO.

Surprised to see that much noise at Iso 3200 on a low res file .... from the kit . Again for me too much of sharpening is done .... hope you do not mind my constant ongoing critique on that front . It would be great if you would try to a more gentle approach and look at them side by side in PS . An easy solution ( for a first impression ) would be by adding a luminosity mask to the sharpened layer ( use the inverted RGB channel as mask to avoid the sharpening in the lights ) . A better solution is more complex .... and does take too long to explain it here .

Soft pastel colors on bird and background are great, William. IMage has a very dreamy feel to to it. Feather detail is great but perhaps over-sharpened a bit as other have noted. I don't have issue with the noise, but I od wish for the slightest bit more head turn towards us. As for the wing action, I think you did as well to freeze it as you could under the conditions.

My personal feeling on Topaz is that it very easily gets overdone. Especially on images with motion blur etc.

That's why I stopped using it for now.

I like to see how this image looks without topaz filters.
