    This male was captured last week about 15 minutes before the sun dipped below the tree line. He and his mate have been hammering on this hole for a while this spring. I believe it is too small to nest in, but they do keep coming back periodically to check it out.

    D850, 500 PF, f/6.3, 1/1000s, ISO 500.

    Post: LRClassic, PS2020. Used the clone stamp to soften a few tree branches in the background.

    Advice and comments always appreciated.

    Hey Randy, nice look at this guy. I would guess they are enlarging the hole for a nest. Thank you for sharing.

    Super shot love the colours though I would investigate the possibility of lifting the very darkest elements.

    Nice lighting, very flash-like. Love the pose and context but agree a little more detail might be available in the lower half of the bird.

    A nice frame of this woodpecker. The bird is nicely lit up nicely.
