I saw more than my fair share of this species this winter, which is a good thing! I did not, however, see any males - but they were around, just not when I was out. Anyhow, lots of fun. Here's one when the snow just started to fall - it later on turned out to be quite a surprise blizzard.
Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC III, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/250s., f/5.6, ISO 1600, natural light, handheld, small crop to help the comp, a few distractions either cloned, content awared, and/or patched out, NR to the BG.
I like most everything about this image. Technically well executed. I just wish the pose was a little better. I find the one branch sticking through the wing is distracting and the HA less than ideal.
Nice one Dan.....I think you exposed this one pretty good....The pose looks good to me...The head area catches the eye, maybe a little more sharpening on the head alone...would be more engaging.....Maybe not...anyway I like it as is...Beautiful colours throughout and great detail on both bird and berries below
I knew this was yours just looking at the thumbnail.
Strong colors yet very soft light, snow, messy face with partially eaten berry, all good
I don't mind straight on poses, although I know that isn't some folks favorite view. I rather liked the twig lifting the primaries, but personal taste. Tells the story of working through the tree to get food.
Hey Daniel! I love the colors here! One thing I always appreciate in your photos is the motion from the falling snow...it adds a lot to the photograph. I'm completely jealous of the snow...I'll trade you hot, humid, mid-summer Florida days for winter snow days anytime! Keep 'em coming, these shots help me get through the heat.
