Sometimes I wonder if you are the same person? You post some really nice stuff and complete crap like this... no offense but this is bad IQ, not in focus and weird color..

Definitely not crap...but yes, not one of your best Colin. Plenty of rain here too! Best to wait it out?

That is a lot of rain. I've read about the current flooding in parts of Australia...lots of water!

Soft, and tight in the frame. Looks like you had a nice BG to work with, so you could crop wider (assuming no major distractions outside the current frame). Although I get where DanK is coming from with his critique, just be careful with the phrasing and use of words, folks.

Thanks for the comments. Not only have we had now six days of continuous rain (and still going), this La Nina event has meant a lot of dark cloudy days, so not so good for photography.
Having just acquired an R5 I was of course desperate to try it out. From this current effort it would seem that iso 4000 is pushing out too much noise.

Agreed, not one for the wall, but sometimes you just have to get out and learn - especially with a new camera. I recently got an R5, only had a few trips, but IMHO, a well exposed and processed ISO 6400 frame can give good results - I've recently tried Topaz DeNoise and that has cleaned the high ISO files up micely

cool bird, but I have to agree this kind of IQ is a delete for me, looks like soft with very heavy noise reduction, not sure if coming from capture or image processing.

Ari, any NR evident on the bird was using the in-camera high iso noise reduction which I normally have turned off. I will post a respectable image of this bird if we ever get fine weather again!
Oh, and I had already deleted all shots from that session!

Hi Colin .... not knowing what you are doing in your PP workflow ??

The image ( as presented ) is showing some dark and light haloing ( wider halos ) around the subject . These effects are not coming from DPP , so whatever filter or plugin you are using I personally would stay away from it . My suggestion is try to keep the PP at a minimum and simple and you will get cleaner files and a better output .
Looking at your techs , I would be surprised to get a fine detailed output , unless you are rocksteady !!!!
As with that rig and a relatively slow shutter speed .... one cannot expect a very sharp base file .

BTW the R5 can easily deliver great IQ with Iso 10.000 if exposed ETTR . Not that I own one , had just a few Raw´s to play with .

    Cheers Andreas
